Today, we went to Paris. It was a great trip, because the students were able to see many monuments of the city today. They were also able to experience the French- bus, train, and metro system. We were able to drive through Chantilly. It is a little beautiful town, where some of our students will be going to see some horses race this weekend. Chantilly, we also learned, means whipped cream and the baker for the king used to live here. Our first stop in Paris was the Louvre. We stayed on the Denon side of the palace and saw the Mona Lisa, the Venus de Milo, Cupid and Psyche, a few Raphael's, and the Code of Hammurabi. After spending sometime running through the Louvre, we had lunch in the Garden Tuilleries, a park which makes Central park seem a bit shabby. From the garden, we could see the wonderful architecture of Haussmann and even the Eiffel Tower and the Arc de' Triomphe. Then we jumped back onto the metro to be sung to by a street performer while heading to Notre Dame. We were able to walk through and some students even lit candles. Next we walked to the University of Paris, called the Sorbonne. On our way, we were able to walk down the narrowest street in Paris- La Rue Du Chat Qui Pesce (the street of the cat who fishes). We were able to walk through the oldest part of Paris and we enjoyed some glace (ice cream). It was a very hot day and by the time we arrived back in Senlis at 5:30pm, we were all tired and ready to relax.
